Roman Loranc Photograph - Weston Scholarship Fundraiser

Weston Scholarship would like to announce the sale of a Roman Loranc photograph "Beginnings". This limited 11x14 toned silver gelatin photograph was generously donated to the Weston Scholarship by Roman himself.

The photograph is an edition of 30. The cost is a $500 donation ($20 for shipping) (Roman's 11x14 photographs start at $900 and go up after 10 are sold). 5 Prints are available now.

The negative will be retired after the 30 photographs are sold.

This is a beautiful rich photograph with the full tones that Roman is so famous for. (I hope it looks okay on your monitor if you have one of those high quality monitors it may appear darker than the original print. It is always difficult to scan images true to the original)

All proceeds from this sale will go directly to the Weston Scholarship We awarded the first $1000 1st Place Roman Loranc Scholarship to Andy Miller of Monterey Peninsula College.

2011 Weston Scholarship Fundraisers

Last month Gin, the photo blog diva arranged 3 fundraisers for the Weston Scholarship. Kim gave the "Growing Up Weston"  lecture 3 times in 2 weeks! We set up a projector and showed the power point slide show in his studio. Then the groups came up and Kim showed Edward Weston, Brett Weston and his own photographs.

In the past month Kim has given his talk to over 100 attendees! The first presentation was at CSUMB, then the Independent Photographers Group, the ImageMakers, Carmel's Padre Trails Camera Club, here at the house at our  "A Day with Kim Weston Workshop" and then we got invited to show it at Stevenson High's Symposium Art Day. So maybe that is more than 100 people that now know a little more about the lives of the Weston family.
Kim said he is retiring that talk. Looking forward to the new lecture and slide show!

Stevenson High Visits Edward Weston's Home

Cole Thompson brought his Stevenson High Photography Class to Wildcat Hill last week.This is the beginning of our "season" for visitors. We love to have the students come, to learn a little bit of photographic history - especially one that is right in their own backyard.
They get to see some amazing photographs, ones that you might only have a chance to see in an upscale gallery or museum. We get to hear what projects they are working on. We love the energy and enthusiasm these kids bring with them. And it gives them a chance to see some of the prior Weston Scholarship winning photographs, we hope some of them will enter their portfolios this year.

Weston Scholarship Showcase at The Alvarado Gallery, Monterey Conference Center.

Weston Scholarship, in partnership with The City of Monterey is pleased to announce The Weston Scholarship Showcase, at the Alvarado Gallery in the Monterey Conference Center. The exhibit features winning photographs selected from Monterey County schools. 

Show runs from September 30, 2010 through January 3, 2011.

Alvarado Gallery is located on the second floor of the Monterey Conference Center, One Portola Plaza (Del Monte Ave. at Calle Principal) in downtown Monterey. The Conference Center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and may be open on weekends for scheduled events.
